There’s nothing quite like summers in San Francisco. They’re misty, cold and strangely magical. The moment June rears its head, the fog sweeps in, breaking the sunlight in a way that gives reality a movie-set quality. While the rest of the world peels their winter layers away to brown their skin in the blistering sun, the temperature in San Francisco drops and the landscape takes on the quality of an eternal early Spring. It means that as the rest of North America and Europe stocks up on shorts and t-shirts, San Franciscans are more likely to stock up on last season’s sale items. Here fashion photographer Massimo Zanuso captures the strange other-worldliness of a Northern California summer, along with the perfect wardrobe for a misty cool climate.
Fashion editor Alessandro Buzzi wrapped model Anouk De Heer in rich layers by Balmain, Stella McCartney, Y3 and Isabel Marant to stave off this paradoxical summer cold. Makeup artist Mikaela Alleyson, and hair stylist Pawel Solis kept the look clean and modern, because even in the coldest summers, nothing wears as beautifully as a clean fresh face.
