Inspired by the land of Fire and Ice, this editorial is all about earthy metallics, deep blood orangey hues reminiscent of hot lava, and an impossibly black, charred landscape that epitomizes the magical volcanic country of Iceland. And no, don’t worry, you won’t have to fly all the way out to Iceland to shoot this, just get creative in selecting a location, making sure to find a landscape with plenty of dark colored rocks that will be easy to blacken in Photoshop, make sure to use an ND filter and whip out your best Photoshop skills. All that effort will be well worth it!
Choose a variety of metallic items that will reflect light and make your model stand out from the stark background. Shooting against a dark landscape comes with it’s own unique challenges, but also presents some incredible lighting opportunities. Mix in a little silver, steel and mirror action and you’ve got magic.
You have soooo many casting options for this shoot! But the one consistent aspect should be the electric orange hair courtesy of Manic Panic’s Electric Lava – such an incredibly photogenic color, it is however semi-permanent. So if you or your model would rather go with something that washes away right after the shoot, you can either get Jerome Russell B Wild Color Spray in Tiger Orange, or Joico InstaTint Temporary Color Shimmer Spray in Fiery Coral).
